Expedition Oman: 5 Days of Cultural & Natural Wonders

Day 01: Muscat City Tour

Arrival in Muscat:

• Upon arrival at Muscat International Airport, or pick-up from your hotel in Muscat, meet your experienced guide. Begin your half-day tour of Oman's vibrant capital.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque:

• Start your exploration at the magnificent Grand Mosque, one of the most iconic landmarks in Oman. Marvel at its stunning Islamic architecture, including intricate carvings, the world’s second-largest handwoven carpet, and a massive Swarovski crystal chandelier.
• Note: Modest dress is required, covering arms and legs, with women needing to wear a headscarf.

Bait Al Zubair Museum:

• Visit Bait Al Zubair Museum, where Omani history and culture come alive. Explore exhibits of traditional Omani attire, jewelry, weapons, and models of traditional homes that provide a glimpse into Oman’s heritage.

Photo Stops at Historical Landmarks:

• Stop for photos at Al Alam Palace, the ceremonial residence of the Sultan, surrounded by the historic Jalali and Mirani Forts, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century.

Muttrah Souq:

• End your tour at the bustling Muttrah Souq, one of the oldest markets in Oman. Wander through its narrow alleys filled with vibrant shops offering traditional Omani handicrafts, spices, perfumes, and souvenirs.

Drop-off at Hotel:

• The tour concludes around 1:00 PM, leaving the rest of the day for you to relax or explore independently.

Overnight: Stay at a hotel in Muscat.

Day 02: Muscat to Jebel Shams via Nakhal and Balad Sayt

8:00 AM - Departure from Muscat:

• After breakfast, depart from Muscat for a scenic drive to explore Oman’s mountain landscapes and historical sites.

Nakhal Fort and Ath Thawarah Spring:

• Visit Nakhal Fort, a 17th-century fortress perched on a rocky outcrop with panoramic views of the surrounding date plantations. Explore its historical exhibits and defensive architecture.
• Stop at Ath Thawarah Spring, a natural hot spring nearby, where water flows through a picturesque wadi lined with palm trees.

Off-Road Adventure through Wadi Bani Awf:

• Begin an exhilarating off-road journey through the rugged terrain of Wadi Bani Awf, known for its dramatic mountain views, narrow gorges, and remote villages. Learn about the unique geography and geology of the region from your guide.

Balad Sayt Village:

• Arrive at Balad Sayt, a charming mountain village surrounded by terraced farms. Walk through its narrow streets to admire the traditional stone houses and learn about the villagers' way of life, including their sustainable farming techniques.

Optional: Snake Canyon Hike:

• For adventure enthusiasts, consider a hike through Snake Canyon, a dramatic gorge with boulders and narrow passageways (requires prior arrangement and fitness level assessment).

Jebel Shams:

• Continue to Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak, known as the “Grand Canyon of Oman.”
• Witness awe-inspiring views of the canyon and its sheer cliffs, a perfect spot for photography and quiet contemplation.

Overnight: Stay at a resort in Jebel Shams.

Day 03: Jebel Shams Exploration

8:00 AM - Balcony Walk Trek:

• After breakfast, embark on the famous Balcony Walk, a moderate trek along the edge of the canyon. This trail offers breathtaking views of the gorge, ancient rock formations, and abandoned cliffside villages. Your guide will share insights into the region’s history and natural beauty.

Jabreen Castle:

• Descend to visit Jabreen Castle, one of Oman’s most well-preserved fortresses. Explore its intricately decorated rooms, secret passages, and rooftop terrace, which provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Drive to Jebel Akhdar:

• After lunch, proceed to Jebel Akhdar (“Green Mountain”), known for its cooler climate, terraced farms, and lush landscapes.

Overnight: Stay at a resort in Jebel Akhdar.

Day 04: Jebel Akhdar and Return to Muscat

8:00 AM - Three Village Walk:

• Begin your day with the Three Village Walk, an immersive trek through the terraced farms and charming mountain villages of Jebel Akhdar. Learn about traditional rosewater production, pomegranate cultivation, and the ancient falaj irrigation system.

Birkat Al Mawz Village:

• Visit Birkat Al Mawz, a historic village at the foothills of Jebel Akhdar. Stroll through its ruins, mud-brick houses, and date plantations, and see the famous Falaj Al Khatmain, a UNESCO-listed irrigation system.

Return to Muscat:

• Drive back to Muscat, where you will check in at your hotel for the evening.

Overnight: Stay at a hotel in Muscat.

Day 05: Departure from Muscat

Morning at Leisure:

• Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and spend the morning relaxing at your hotel or exploring Muscat independently.

Airport Transfer:

• Depending on your flight schedule, your guide will arrange a transfer to Muscat International Airport for departure.
